The Committee for Recommending a President is pleased to share its final report, which recommends that the Senate nominate Dr. Susan Tighe as President and Vice-Chancellor of McMaster University for appointment by the Board of Governors for a five-year term, effective July 1, 2025.

On October 23, the Senate received the Committee report and nominated Dr. Tighe. On October 24, the Board of Governors received the nomination and appointed Dr. Tighe as President and Vice-Chancellor of McMaster University for a five-year term starting July 1, 2025.

Article 16.3 of the McMaster University Act governs the appointment process of the University’s President.

Board of Governors By-Laws Review the By-Laws

By-Law 1.17 states:

From time to time, as required, the Board shall appoint five of its members to a Board-Senate Committee to Recommend a President, one of whom shall be from those appointed under Section 8 (1) (d) of the 1976 Act, one member from those elected under Section 8 (1) (i), one member from those elected under Section 8 (1) (f), and two members shall be from among the persons elected or appointed under Sections 8 (1) (b), 8 (1) (c) or 8 (1) (j) of the 1976 Act.

Articles II.9 (b), 10, and IX.117 of the Senate By-Laws govern the selection and approval of Senate-appointed members of the Board-Senate Committee for Recommending a President.
